Types of Business Card Designs

Choosing the design of a business card depends on its purpose and field of activity - only in this case can the desired result be achieved. The appearance and the placed text should clearly convey information about the nature of the business, reflect individuality and values, and also express the main idea.

There are the following types of business card designs:

  1. Conservative.

  2. Standard.

  3. Non-standard.

Conservative Business Cards

Such business cards are chosen for large companies, their executives, government officials, representatives of law enforcement and official structures. They primarily serve an informative function and are usually referred to as "business cards." These are rectangular cards made of matte, dense cardboard, usually in light shades. For international companies, it is also common to create business cards in English. In Western traditions, the first name is placed before the last name, without a patronymic. An easily accessible email address is also important. Conservative style is characterized by a simple and legible font, absence of bright colors, and images.

Standard Business Cards

Different countries have various standards for business card design. In some European countries, different sizes are allowed, while, for example, in Germany, any deviations are unacceptable. In Japan, the exchange of business cards is a strict ritual, and they are called "meishi," with traditional dimensions of 91x55 mm. In the post-Soviet space, the standard size is 90x50 mm. For international business, the 85x55 mm format can be used. These business cards are conveniently stored in a wallet or cardholder. Standard business cards also feature a restrained design with minimal images and a simple font.

Creative (Non-Standard) Business Cards

In these business cards, you can express the ideas and creative potential of the business owner. The main rule in their creation is the absence of rules. For example, if you are engaged in the production and sale of tools or provide services for equipment repair, you can use business cards in the form of a wrench or metallic plastic drill. For enterprises selling products, a business card in the shape of a dumpling or a flat cardboard bagel is suitable. And for a craft beer shop, an effective solution would be a business card with a built-in bottle opener, including the company's address and essential information. As Henry Ford once said, "You can have any color as long as it's black." Similarly, your business card can have any design, as long as it effectively serves the goals of your business, reflects the character of your corporate or personal brand. In addition to traditional paper business cards, there are also more modern virtual business card, which are convenient, always at hand, and easily adjustable in terms of information.
